We have just come back from a weeks holiday in the Wild Coast where we spent 7 days simply relaxing on the beautiful beaches and swimming in the sparkling fresh ocean of this secluded place. The Haven Hotel is located within the Cwebe/Dwesa Nature Reserves on the Transkei Wild Coast of South Africa. It is famous for its beautiful untouched beaches that stretch onwards for miles. There are endless things to see and do at the Haven and it offers a way of life that lets you forget the rest of the world and relax in the most secluded and unspoiled surroundings.

The Haven is located at the mouth of the Mbashe River and has long been renowned as one of the prime fishing destinations in South Africa but this is only one of  the many reasons to visit this unique Transkei Wild Coast resort. Some other activities you can enjoy include horse riding, tennis, golf, bird watching, canoeing, whale and dolphin watching, snorkeling, 4x4ing and hiking to some beautiful spots around the area. The favourite pastime of most  visitors here, however, seems to be simply relaxing or talking a walk along the magnificent white beaches.

Haven_Garden_CottageThere are approximately 25 "chalet style" cottages with a rustic, “fishermen’s cottage” feel to them. Some cottages are sea facing while others are set further back in a garden-like setting around the mashe golf course. There are also 5 thatched rondawels designed in traditional Xhosa style. All the beds, pillows and linen have recently been replaced and each room is being upgraded. All rooms are en suite, most with a shower and a bath.  Water is obtained from the local Wild Coast municipality. Drinking wated is clean but not recommeded to drink so ample water is provided in each of the cottages. Coffee and tea is available in all the rooms aswell.

Food at The Haven ranges from casual poolside braais to seafood platters. Three meals a day are provided in the dining room. Breakfast usually consists of fruit juice, porridge of the day, various cereals, toast, eggs to order, bacon with sausage or tomatoes or beans etc. Lunch is normally a simple hot meal such as macaroni, spaghetti, and lasagne. sausage and mash, fish and chips, chicken and chips etc and cold meats and salads. Dinner is normally a soup starter, fish entree, a main course and pudding. Tea and coffee are available at all times. We have a seafood platter once a week and a braai on Sundays. A full bar service is available and the cozy bar boasts a full size billiards table and many artifacts from the Oceanus ship disaster which happened nearby.
